  • Abstract:  Are you the type of gamer who finds themselves increasingly turned off by the dumbing-down of modern role-playing games? Were you disappointed by easy accessibility of recent Final Fantasy and Fallout games? Do you wish today's crop of adventure game...

  • Abstract:  Out of all the video game genres out there, dungeon crawlers are arguably one of the most divisive. The appeal of painstakingly wandering through a massive dungeon—often square by square—with little to start with in the way of equipment, abilities, or ...

  • Abstract:  Fan-favorite game publisher Atlus continues to release niche titles for gamers looking for unique role-playing game experiences. So many amazing titles have come to America's shores thanks to the company which definitely has a cult following. On the DS...

  • Abstract:  The Etrian Odyssey games haven't become cult favorites simply by making cartography cool again. No, the classic RPG formula (borrowed from Wizardry and its ilk) is just one facet of the series' longevity. What impresses me most after three years and a ...

  • Abstract:  Etrian Odyssey III is an emotional rollercoaster. Half roguelike, half JRPG, the Etrian Odyssey games are known for their intense challenge and rewarding gameplay. You start out by founding an explorer's guild, and are sent on a mission to map the depth...

  • Abstract:  Before plunging into Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City, make sure you know what you're getting into. This game demands hours of toiling in the unforgiving depths of a dungeon, obsessively mapping that dungeon, fighting enemies you shouldn't even be ...

  • I don’t enjoy level-grinding for no apparent reason, but on the off-chance that you’re one of those people that do, this might be the perfect game for you. There are lots of different character classes available that you can level up with subclasses an...

  • Abstract:  Today's role-playing epic is often a journey through a brilliant village of cinematics. You get to tour Main Street and perhaps the odd side path, but care is taken to parade you along with a minimum of wandering afield. Etrian Odyssey III is not that ...

  • Provides a stiff challenge, Exploration yields many rewards, Sea voyages complement the dungeon crawling well.
  • Steep learning curve, Barebones storyline provides little impetus, Lots of grinding, backtracking, and rude monsters.
  • The fierce foes and expansive dungeons of Etrian Odyssey III welcome all those with a love for a good old-fashioned challenge....

  • Constantly challenging; offers lots of depth and customization to play how you choose; has interesting new features like sailing, weapon forging, new classes and abilities, and dualclass characters.
  • Grueling difficulty and need to grind will turn some off; story is downplayed for dungeoncrawling; objectives are not clear at certain points.
