  • As a cool toy with an educational bent there's nothing that quite matches a Sphero and the Bolt is the best of this unique range of robotic educational assistants. It's simple and accessible – I put this in the hands of my ten-year-old son and, thanks to t...

  • Abstract:  Available for £136.97 from Sphero.comThe Sphero Bolt is programmable rolling bot just like the BB8 we have reviewed recently. On early inspection and if it lives up the BB8 before it it will be packed with features and beloved by all the family but mainly...

  • Tough enough to take plenty of knocks, Plenty of modes to keep you busy, It teaches you stuff without you realising
  • Have to reconnect each time your phone goes to sleep, No facial control, Games lack inspiration
  • The Bolt is great fun, and educational to boot. Driving it can be a bit sluggish, and we hope your skirting boards are up to taking a few knocks. But once you get the hang of it it's pretty intuitive. You have to reconnect to Bolt every time your phone g...

  • Expensive, No built-in sound, You really need two screens to follow the tutorials

  • Abstract:  Sphero, a Boulder-based robotics company, brought BB-8, R2-D2 and Lightning McQueen to life as amazing personality-filled toys. But as you might guess from its name, the company's original focus was all about remote-control balls: Lots and lots of them...

  • The Bolt is the most technically sophisticated Sphero yet. The LED matrix opens up a wealth of more expressive options, while the IR sensor - though in its early stages - has the potential to turn it into a sophisticated multiplayer option. The barrier, as...
