  • Abstract:  The Ixus 1000 HS follows hard on the heels of the Ixus 300 HS, which was announced in May. The 10-megapixel sensor appears to be the same in both models but the 1000 HS boasts a 10x optical zoom lens (36-360mm in 35mm format) and is the first Ixus came...

  • Noise managed well up to 800 ISO, 1080 video mode with zoom, stereo sound, optical stabilisation, 1 cm macro mode, Easy to use
  • No real wide angle (36 mm), Screen lacks precision, Poor battery life, Pictures taken in bright sunlight look a little dark, No sweep panorama mode
  • In the end, the Ixus 1000 HS is a bit of a mixed bag, with acceptable picture quality, an optical zoom lens that's versatile but far from perfect, a good HD video mode but a terrible battery life....

  • Abstract:  As most will know Canon produce two ranges of small cameras the PowerShot and the Ixus. Having reviewed some tiny Ixus this seems quite large. The main difference is that PowerShot use ‘AA’ batteries and the Ixus a solid battery....

  • A lot of people find some extra zoom power comes in handy so it is good to see this level of zoom in a small compact camera. The Canon IXUS 1000 HS is a good choice if the features are a good match for your own personal requirements. Having said that ...

  • The Canon IXUS 1000 HS has many virtues, but for an anniversary edition it’s a damp squib. While it delivers solid stills performance, includes a great lens, and makes it easy to record high-quality HD footage, the design and ergonomics spoil the party...

  • Long zoom in compact body; easy to use
  • Plasticky feel; no dedicated delete control; poor battery life
  • The Canon IXUS 1000 HS is another competent entry in the long-zooming compact-camera arena. There's little that lifts the 1000 above its ever-swelling pack of rivals, however....
