  • Abstract:  Canon's launch of the EOS 6D may have taken the limelight at Photokina 2012 but the announcement of the Powershot SX50 HS also caused quite a stir. The Canon SX50 HS stands out from many of its rivals in the market by boasting a 50x optical zoom. It's ...

  • Classleading 50X optical zoom, Nice retention of details, Good metering system, Punchy image colors but no too much, Excellent whitebalance, Classleading 0cm macro focus, Impressive stabilization, Sensitive autofocus, Resists purple fringing, Intuitive us
  • Useless ISO 3200 & 6400 sensitivities, Noise visible at all ISO, Limited dynamic range, Max 1s shutterspeed above ISO 80, Sluggish autofocus, High distortion near wideangle, Miniscule EVF, No EVF/LCD toggle, Controldial too slim, Weak LCD hinge, Short bat
  • The Canon Powershot SX50 HS is a prosumer digital camera with the requisite manual controls, including manual focus and custom white-balance, plus a hot-shoe and built-in EVF. It has advanced features like exposure and focus bracketing and it can shoot fu...

  • Abstract:  Forum Login OK, I admit it. I have a soft spot for so-called Superzoom cameras and have reviewed quite a few of them on these pages over the years. I have looked at even more than I have reviewed, and found most (read – all) wanting, usually in the ...

  • For photographers who just can't get enough telephoto power, there's the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS HS. This camera packs a whopping 50X, 24 - 1200mm lens, which is more than you'll find on any other super zoom on the market (at least for now). While ha...

  • Poor EVF
  • Buying Guide Best compact camera 2012 The bridge camera section of the market is continuing to perform well in a time when the general compact camera market is on a downturn. What bridge cameras such as the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS offer is fantastic flexi...

  • Huge 50x optical zoom, Hotshoe for accessories, Articulated screen
  • Occasional issues with focusing, Poor quality EVF, Bulky and unrefined design
  • While the SX50 HS excels in certain areas, and has a fantastic focal range, it's far from a complete performer and has issues that let it down on the whole. It's a solid camera, but it's nothing special....

  • Those photographers who are concerned about the impact the wide zoom has on image quality can rest easy, because the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS puts in a solid performance. Furthermore, Canon has wisely addressed the areas where the SX40 HS was found wanting...

  • RAW mode, Easy to use / Manual modes available, Good picture quality at wideangle settings, Full HD video with goodquality stereo sound, Good grip
  • Strong chromatic aberration / Image lacks sharpness at telephoto, Autofocus isn't particularly reliable at telephoto settings, Poorquality viewfinder, Video framerate just 24 fps
  • The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS is an interesting and attractive bridge camera. Its 50x zoom sets it apart from competitors but image quality isn't on par with the Panasonic FZ200, for example, which makes do with a 24x zoom....
