The sensible zoom range means that images are sharp at both focal length extremes. Exposure is consistently accurate. The GPS works well. Movie mode is outstanding and the 120 page instruction manual is clear and comprehensive.
We do have a question about the useability, in extreme situations, of a camera with such small buttons. Nikon is no different from other cameras in the indestructible category
The Nikon goes up to the top of desirable indesctructibles, alongside the Canon Powershot D10 and Panasonic FT10. We took the camera to the Zoo, shooting in harsh contrasty light and were pleased with the auto exposure and the detail preserved in extreme...

while this is a camera of limited flexibility, and with some weaknesses in shooting capabilities, it's also a great little starter camera for someone wanting a gadget that can survive the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (or a school backpack).Jo...
Abstract: At the rear the 3in, 460k-dot screen is accompanied by a neat arrangement of weather-sealed controls, and tapping the Scene button gives you access to a variety of automatic modes that include 19 Scene modes and six picture effects (Soft, Nostalgic Sepia...
The CoolPix AW100 is a bit of a disappointment, especially given the high standards one usually expects from Nikon. Although its build quality and all-weather credentials are up to the expected standard, its performance is adequate and its autofocus syst...
Tough enough to take anywhere, Uncomplicated and easy to use, Delivers excellent image quality outdoors, Slow-motion video capture and Panoramic modes
Buttons a bit small and tightly clustered, Auto White Balance easily fooled under artificial lighting
The AW100 isn't designed to be complicated, rather it's deliberately designed to be easy to use. While the simplified and streamlined menus certainly help out in this respect we did find the buttons on the back of the camera to be a bit too small and clos...
Image noise, controls can be a little fiddly, action button controls could be better
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 produces reasonable results and packs in many features, but it does struggle with highlights. The easy access controls could be better designed and this camera does sit towards the top end in terms of price....
Waterproof (10 m), shockproof (1.5 m) and coldproof (10°C), Responsive (autofocus, startup), Easy to use, GPS works faster than in most cameras (except in builtup areas)
Picture quality could be better, especially from 800 ISO upwards, Sound quality in video mode, Videos are underexposed when filmed indoors
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a compact water- and weather-proof snapper aimed at divers, hikers and outdoor types in general. However, the lens and sensitivity are slightly disappointing, which ultimately makes us prefer rivals like the Panasonic FT3. ...
Consider the Nikon AW100 if you're an outdoors type that can make use of the camera's rugged design. It's waterproof and shockproof, yet it doesn't really compromise when it comes to usability. It's picture quality is also clear and vibrant for the mos...
