  • Abstract:  The Olympus 1030 SW is both a treat and a disappointment. We love the idea of a camera we can mistreat in a wide range of difficult shooting situations without having to worry about babying our gear. Its small and portable enough to go where an SLR w...

  • Compact, attractive design, Rugged build, Waterproof, Freeze proof, Crushproof, Shockproof, Submersible to 33 feet with no time limits, Special underwater scene modes, 28mm wide-angle optical zoom, Macro illumination lamp, Face Detection, 2.7-inch LCD,...
  • External control identifiers difficult to read, Image noise even at low ISO, Chromatic aberration, Soft images, Face Detection buried in main menu, Image quality not as good as "non-rugged" competition, Poor autofocus system, No manual apertu...
  • This tough little point-and-shoot camera can withstand conditions -- and handling -- that would wreak havoc with other cameras. The Olympus Stylus 1030SW also offers a nice selection of features that are helpful for novices and snapshooters. You wont ...

  • Good exposure and color, Ultrarugged, "everythingproof" body, Wideangle, 28 102 mm lens, Snappy performance, Large, sharp 2.7" LCD display with good low light visibility, Tons of scene modes, Handy Shadow Adjustment and Perfect Shot Prev...
  • Soft images with heavy noise reduction and substantial blurring around the edges of the frame, Redeye a problem (but at least you can remove it later), Lens is on the "slow" side, No manual controls, Poor white balance performance in the stud...
  • How one rates the Olympus Stylus 1030SW depends on how you view it. If you view it as an ultra-compact camera, its average, at best. However, your typical ultra-compact cant take nearly the beating that the 1030SW can. It can be dropped, dunked in wa...

  • Tough as Conan the Barbarian; possibly tougher. Cool little mode-wheel on back. Helpful panorama modes.
  • Clumsy interface. Only supports xD and microSD. Making features proprietary to Olympus xD cards is underhanded. Image quality poor for this price range.
  • The Olympus Stylus 1030 SW isnt about taking magazine-quality pictures. Its about dragging it through 14-degree weather, 30-feet of water and then accidentally dropping it, all without concern for its survival. If the cameras durability meets a sp...

  • Abstract:  This camera is targeted to Point-and-Shoot photographers, has 10.1MP resolution and a 3.6x optical zoom. AUTO and 24 Scene Modes simplify shooting, and more advanced photographers can also switch to the Programmed AE (P) mode which provides control ove...

  • Abstract:  Slightly larger than a pack of cards, the Olympus Tough 1030SW feels reassuringly solid. With a stainless steel case, it is designed to be water resistant up to a depth of ten meters and survive being dropped from two meters, crushed by 100 kg or e...

  • The Olympus Stylus 1030 SW definitely has the rugged qualities needed to fulfill its mission. If you need a waterproof, shockproof, coldproof, and crush-proof camera, it absolutely fits the bill and it even looks good doing it. Operationally, the came...

  • Water-, shock-, cold-proof housing leads to creative photos. Looks like a regular camera versus one in a bulky case. Snaps images almost precisely with shutter button.
  • Mediocre image quality has more noise than detail. Hard to see the screen in bright light. Flash doesn’t light image edges along with a center subject.
  • The Stylus 1030 SW leads to creative, always-ready photos in rainstorms, ski trips, or just gazing up from a beer mug. A fragile camera can’t get many of those images, but the 1030 SW’s photo quality might make you wish it could. ...
