  • The Pentax K-1 delivers excellent photo quality and a ton of features in a sturdy, well-designed body
  • The autofocus is inconsistent and the image stabilization isn't as good as competitors'
  • For photographers who want great photo quality for less than $2,000, the Pentax K-1 hits the bullseye...

  • The camera is large and heavy. The body alone weighs almost a kilo.
  • The camera is large and heavy. The body alone weighs almost a kilo
  • The Pentax K-1has the largest – and a little bewildering – feature set of any camera we have tested. Absolutely everything that a photographer is likely to need by way of camera control is built in. It surpasses the feature set of the Canon and Nikon full...

  • Ricoh Imaging hasn't promoted the Pentax K-1 as a 'professional' camera, although it could be used for some professional assignments since it meets many of the necessary criteria. But it doesn't compete with the flagship pro cameras from Canon and Nikon.T...

  • One of the most attractive things about the K-1 is that it offers a rugged build and a full-frame sensor at a relatively affordable price. It's not cheap, but it compares favourably with the likes of the Nikon D810, Canon 5D Mk III and Sony Alpha 7R II. A
  • It won't be an issue for everyone, but the K-1's menu system looks very old-fashioned, and some of the icons on the Control Panel are difficult to interpret, The top two sensitivity settings produce the type of results we'd expect to see from expansion se
  • Recognising that attention is shifting towards mirrorless cameras, and that it's late in bringing out a full-frame SLR, Pentax has introduced the K-1 at an attractive price. Its launch price is less than the current street price of cameras such as the Can...

  • High-quality stills, 5-axis in-camera stabilization, Unique adjustable LCD
  • Seems dated even though it's a 2016 model, Only 30p video, not even 60p let alone 4K
  • For pixel-peeping Pentax owners, the answer is yes — but everyone else should consider alternatives first. There are some great cameras available for around $2,000. Caveat emptor...

  • Great full-frame image quality, an abundance of clever modes (5-axis stabilisation sensor, used for Horizon Correction, Pixel Shift Resolution, Astrotracer), flex-tilt monitor leads the way in its field, it's a bargain
  • Lens selection more limited than Canon/Nikon (or just harder to source), autofocus system not as on point as the competition, 4.8fps isn't as fast as competition either, no touchscreen
  • The Pentax K-1 is one of the more interesting DLSR cameras we've seen in recent years. One, because it's the first digital full-frame camera from the company - and about time too. Second, because it crams in so many features - many of which its better-kno...

  • Full frame fanciness, Superb stills in the studio, Small and tough - won't give up in wet weather
  • Not fast enough for action snaps, Needs light to look its best
  • The K-1 packs a full-frame sensor at a pretty bargain price, so there's no major surprise that it's not the perfect all-rounder. Sure, it does a great job with portraits, macro and landscape shots, but it'll leave sports and wildlife photographers a litt...

  • Combining excellent build quality, fantastic image results and amazing value for money, the K-1 definitely holds its own against established rivals from Canon and Nikon. It certainly seems like Pentax listened to photographers when designing the K-1 and b...

  • Excellent image quality; superb resolution and dynamic range, High features-to-price ratio, Excellent handling with many physical controls, One of the most flexible LCD displays around
  • Occasional auto white balance inconsistencies, Video options not as comprehensive as those on other cameras, Artefacts visible in certain Pixel Shift Resolution images, Continuous focus doesn't track quite as well as other systems
  • A model as anticipated as the K-1 has to work hard to meet expectations, but those who have waited patiently are likely to be very pleased. Its recipe for success is simple: not only does it offer an awful lot for its very reasonable asking price, but it...
