  • It’s an original concept but one that doesn’t really solve any problems, and the price is only a little short of absurd ...

  • This is where it gets confusing. These camera units have different sized sensors. The 24-72mm unit has a 1/1.7-inch sensor while the 50mm unit offers an APS-C‑sized sensor. This makes the GXR harder to categorise and judge. Is it a compact camera with ...

  • There’s nothing else like it, sharp 50mm macro lens, bright, hires screen
  • Slow autofocus, expensive, only two front modules at present
  • Interesting stuff, and the 50mm unit is very impressive – but it’s all way too pricey for what it actually delivers...

  • Changeable units increase the number of shooting possibilities. Stunning image quality and macros with 50mm unit. Clickwheels make manual control simple
  • Inconsistent image quality between lens units. Slow autofocus
  • Capable of awesome results with the right lens unit, but inconsistency and a high price tag pop it into a small niche ...

  • Compact size. Impressive photographic results
  • The price. Austere styling won't have universal appeal. Feels like an evolutionary step rather than a final answer to the quality vs size argument
  • The Ricoh feels like an evolutionary step rather than a final answer to the quality vs size argument, but it's certainly one in the right direction

  • Innovative idea that's presently "one of a kind" as the world's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera, rugged magnesium alloy construction ensures this concept feels "built to last"
  • Pricey when investing in the GXR system from scratch, busy menu screens and spindly typeface make functions hard to find and quickly navigate
  • Ricoh has come the closest yet to delivering DSLR-like quality and versatility in compact form, though the GXR is still too tight a squeeze for a trouser pocket with or without its lens combos attached. ...

  • Compact solution to provide professional pictures without the bulk of a DSLR; stunningly sharp results, particularly with 50mm portrait lens and 12-megapixel sensor combo; component parts feel solid, well made, and attach and come apart easily, but not to...
  • Expensive; auto white balance performance variable; busy menu screens and small typeface make function searches fiddly Min specs: DB-90 rechargeable battery (3.6V); 160g; 113.9x70.2x28.9mm; exposure: Auto, program shift, aperture priority, shutter priorit...

  • Interesting design, Build quality, LCD screen, APS-C sensor in 50mm unit
  • Small sensor in the 24-72mm unit, Noise is an issue as medium to high ISO, Quite pricey
