  • Samsung have certainly come a long way in a short time in the digital camera market. We can still remember the cheap multi-coloured look-alikes that the Korean giant used to churn out by their thousands, but recent cameras like the NX10 and now the n...

  • Abstract:  Every now and then a camera comes along that simply feels right from the moment that you pick it up. It's a curious combination of design attributes, build materials and ergonomics that makes this so. The Samsung EX1 (TL500 in some markets) is one su...

  • The TL500 is a very promising camera that looks like it will be a good pick for those who want a camera they can control, but who don't want to lug around an SLR. It has a great set of controls and features, including a full manual mode that is actu...

  • 3inch rotating AMOLED screen, Manual exposure control, Raw image recording, Bright f/1.8 lens, Good build quality
  • Red channel noise in shadow areas above ISO 800, Slow continuous shooting speed, Fiddly rear control dial
  • Its comparatively low price and large range of features make the Samsung EX1 an interesting prospect for anyone looking for a low-light capable compact camera with manual controls. And used with care, it can deliver excellent results, especially when it c...

  • The Samsung TL500 has an attractive design and a bright flip-and-twist display
  • Some irritating control placements, inconsistent photo quality, and an uninspiring feature set tarnish the TL500's appeal
  • Less than the sum of its parts, the Samsung TL500 is a solid camera, but it just can't keep up with veteran players in the competitive enthusiast compact market....

  • Like: The image quality is about as good as it gets in a compact. JPEG's from the camera are good but the RAW images are outstanding. It is worth taking the trouble to capture in RAW and process with the excellent Silkypix converter. Image noise is notice
  • Dislike: The movie mode is VGA — a bit crude in this day and age

  • Abstract:  The 10-megapixel EX1 is the new flagship of the company's compact digital camera range. It features a new high-performance 1/1.7-inch (7.6 x 5.7 mm) CCD sensor plus a fast Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan lens with 3x optical zoom (24-72mm equivalent). It...

  • F/1.8 lens, easy to use menu system, great screen, great depth of field
  • Noisy images, some softness in bright areas, some lens distortion at wide angles, shutter speed not fast enough
  • The Samsung EX1 has a fast f/1.8 lens and manual controls that make it a good choice for an enthusiast or professional photographer who wants a fully manual but small camera for casual shoots. It supplied great depth of field during our tests, and it can...

  • Build; Dual dials; Easy to control Great image quality; Can shoot at low ISOs even at night; AMOLED screen can be swivelled
  • Slow startup time; VGA video quality (as it focuses more on image quality); Limited Zoom

  • Abstract:  The digital era of photography has done a fine job of re-creating the SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera, but what about the equally awesome, yet inexpensive rangefinder? Samsung's EX1 looks like very good place to start. Check our review after the break....
