  • Abstract:  The TX5 is Sony’s first waterproof point-and-shoot camera. Actually, I’ve been told there was a 2-megapixel model a few years ago. That makes this their first modern, rugged camera, with really useable features and resolution. The Sony We...

  • Abstract:  Are you looking for a stylish camera or a rugged camera? Usually you have to pick one trait or the other, but the 10-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 offers both. The DSC-TX5 looks just like many of the other slim...

  • Abstract:  Sony joins the list of waterproof camera manufacturers with a new model, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5, which withstands immersion to up three metres but retains the slim and stylish appearance of the previous TX-series models. Featuring a 4x optical zoom len...

  • Responsive touchscreen, start-up time is minimal
  • Took unimpressive photos during our tests, awkward design
  • The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is something of a novelty: a ruggedised camera with an ultra-compact design. It's not quite as tough as some competing digital cameras, and we weren't overly impressed by its image quality...

  • Looks like a normal camera. Rugged enough for most of us. Decent image quality
  • Lens position invites stray fingers. Barrel distortion at 25mm. Wrist-strap not adjustable, slips off easily underwater
  • The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 isn't without its flaws, but the camera's true go anywhere nature (from soirees to surf) makes it a winner....

  • Abstract:  Sleek and sexy with a slim body and polished coloured metal the Sony DSC-TX5 is an exceptionally desirable camera. It looks like a fashionist camera, but it's actually as rugged as it is slinky; waterproof to 10 feet deep, freeze proof down to 14 de...

  • Rugged skills without rugged looks, Natural colour reproduction, Large 3-inch touchscreen LCD
  • Autofocus slows a little low light, Lack of manual settings options, Touchscreen display not that responsive

  • Super-wide-angle lens; 10fps burst mode; great 'intelligent sweep panorama' mode; shockproof, freezeproof and waterproof; 720p movie mode
  • Not immediately obvious how the interface works; arguably slightly awkward to handle
  • There are so many compact cameras on the market now that new models really have to do something special to stand out. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 rises to the challenge, offering a plethora of unique selling points. By pursuing processing speed rather...
