  • Abstract:  I’ve already written—eloquently—about my minor addiction to hardware iterations. I can’t turn a good form factor down, which is why I was already wringing my hands over the coming 3DS XL. Site director Neal Ronaghan had the unit shipped to my house, kn...

  • The 3DS XL brings small improvements over the 3DS, but they all add up to a better handheld overall. It may be heavier, but the screens make for a more impressive experience, the console is easier to handle, and the battery has seen a much needed impr...

  • Abstract:  The idea of an "XL" DS alternative has always sounded a bit silly to me. It's just like the system I already have, but bigger? What's the point of that? Of course, like gaming PCs and iPads, it's always easy to besmirch a system that you don't own --...

  • Bigger screen improves the 3D effect significantlyImproved battery life under some conditionsMore comfortable to hold and use
  • Digital content still lackingNo secondary analog stickNot the most powerful of handheld hardware
  • If you've been holding off from buying a 3DS, the improvements to the screens and battery are enough to warrant a purchase, but some issues still remain....

  • It depends. If you've already got a 3DS, maybe not. But if you're looking at the current generation of handhelds, the 3DS XL is definitely the Nintendo device to get. And while it's clearly behind Sony's PS Vita in specs, the two-screen interface offers a...

  • Abstract:  Making excellent use of the 3DS’s stereoscopic tech to play with perspective, Nintendo has crafted one of the finest entries in the Super Mario series yet. Not only is it a challenge to find all three Star Coins hidden in each level, but the game keeps yo...

  • Abstract:  The more portly brother of the Nintendo 3DS was only announced by Nintendo just over a week ago – and the brilliantly kept secret is due for a properly tight turn around, hitting stores later this month, on July 28.But as much a surprise as the new handhe...

  • Abstract:  Bigger and Badder than beforeAt the end of April, I celebrated ? my 35th Birthday. Around the same time, I had the opportunity to spend a little money at Argos. It had been a long time since I bought any new video game gear and started to consider the PS ...

  • If you're hellbent on getting your nipper or yourself a 3DS, then the XL is the obvious choice. However, without the additional thumbstick, Nintendo has once again failed to deliver the means to comfortably explore 3D environments. Considering the third d...

  • Bigger screens are generally more comfortable than those in the standard 3DS, Battery life has improved, 3D effect is more immersive, Good finish, decentquality matte plastics that are fingerprintprone, Improved design and handling, Buttons are more pract
  • Still only one analogue stick, Mains charger not included, More plasticky, less highend feel than the original 3DS, Screen brightness slightly lower than the 3DS, Screens are bigger but resolution stays the same, Battery can't be removed
  • If you don't mind its bulkier design, the 3DS XL is probably a better choice than the original 3DS. It's nicer to handle and its bigger screens are generally nicer to use—even if the resolution hasn't been upped (onscreen images are less finely detailed)....
