  • Battlefield 2042 tries to do a lot, but only some of its experiments are worth celebrating. The 128 player matches of its All-Out Warfare modes definitely feel like too much for their own good a lot of the time, but its more strategic new Hazard Zone mode...

  • Graphically impressive, Portal is nostalgic fun, Hazard Zone feels intense
  • Unsatisfying shooting, Oversized maps, Cluttered UI

  • Breathtaking visuals, Excellent gameplay and tons of customization options, Specialists bring new ways to play, Hazard Zone and Portal are welcome additions
  • Bugs and more bugs, Large maps and 128 players can be problematic, No voice chat at launch, Too many modes means some get diluted, Needs a “no PC” toggle for crossplay on consoles
  • Where past Battlefield games have felt too conservative, Battlefield 2042 is massively ambitious to a fault. Some of the changes reinvigorate the franchise's aging formula, but this latest entry ultimately spreads itself too thin...

  • The core of Battlefield 2042 is still the stupidly fun formula DICE has mastered, with spectacular Michael Bay movie-esque action sequences that organically breed out of extreme chaos. There's a lot of game in here, and the bump to the player count is a n...

  • Abstract:  Battlefield 2042 is more than just another iteration of the nearly 20-year-old shooter franchise. For DICE, it is at once the opportunity of winning the fanbase back after the underwhelming Battlefield V (which in comparison to Battlefield 1 sold less amo...

  • Specialists offer lots of different approaches to core Battlefield gameplay, Deep, expansive customization lets you mix and match class elements, Hazard Zone is a fun take on some battle royale ideas that offers a smaller-scale Battlefield experience, Por
  • Some specialists don't seem viable on certain maps, limiting your choices, Review event saw some visual glitches and server issues, Unclear how the game will evolve through live-service approach

  • Abstract:  Battlefield 2042 felt like an eternity away, but now it's only a little over one week from release. After spending three days with other media types playing the next giant war game, I can finally say it's ambitious but isn't able to match the ambition so...
