Funky dropindropout cooperative gameplay, Persistent progression with stylish new hats and presents you won't have to get the receipt for, Stays true to its roots (for better or for worse), Art style looks right out of the golden days of Rocko's Modern Li
Earthlings can mob you and bad luck leads to some pretty bummer presents, Performance hitches on PS4 Pro including slowdown and dropped frames
ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove goes old-school and ignores those experimental sequels to create a spiritual successor that's even more charming than the original Genesis adventure...
Gorgeous pop-art and graffiti-inspired period aesthetic, Generally pleasant ambience and cool, leisurely attitude, Funkadelic grooves by bassist Cody Wright add to the overall vibe and spirit
Randomized items are a burden rather than a boon, Online multiplayer is more bothersome than interesting, Underdeveloped RPG systems distract from simpler pleasures and are awkwardly integrated, A host of technical problems, some game-breaking
Oozes distinct 90s style and humor, Presentation and character designs are fun and charming, Fun roguelite elements that encourage replays…

All things considered, it's wonderful that ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove exists. It's also wonderful for the fans who wanted a true sequel to the original entry in the series and for the developers who were finally able to make that happen...
ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove just feels like more of the original game sprinkled with some modern-day trimmings (rogue-lite progression, for example) that feel like an afterthought...
