  • HD resolution is clean and crisp, multiple plot decisions, character progression through leveling, smooth combat animation, multiple special moves
  • Nine lives isn’t enough on normal difficulty, skill point allocation is not saved, character unlocks restricted, versus mode is too hectic for 12 players, some input lag

  • It’s like this: Guardian Heroes is basically one of the best beat-em-ups ever developed, the end, and unless you actively and passionately hate the entire genre you have no reason whatsoever to buy and love this game as your own. The plot’s still surp...

  • Abstract:  2011 seems destined to be the Year of the HD Remake. With major publishers raiding their back catalogs for material to resell, both retail shelves and online marketplaces seem increasingly packed with familiar games from the last console generation (an...

  • Abstract:  Guardian Heroes is one of the best 2D beat 'em ups ever produced. As much as I love old Konami titles like the TMNT series, X-Men, and the Simpsons, they all pale in comparison to Treasure's classic Sega Saturn release. It's what Castle Crashers was se...

  • Abstract:  Treasure don't make games for humans. It's not common knowledge, but their target audience is a group of sentient Cephalopoda from the future. Only space octopuses have the dexterity to dodge a torrent of bullets in Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga, or con...

  • Guardian Heroes is a fantastic addition to the XBLA catalog of remakes. While the remix graphics don’t benefit the game, and the gameplay flow shows its age, Guardian Heroes remains a classic in the hack and slash genre. For any beat ‘em up fans who di...

  • Abstract:  The Sega Saturn is a strange system. There wasn’t exactly a lot of love shown for the console when it first launched but it achieved an almost cult-like following after it officially died in the retail market. The Japanese market in particular was more...

  • Still fast and satisfying combat; remastered graphics make this better than an emulator; dropin online coop is a nice touch (if a little expected these days).
  • New game modes feel unnecessary; remixed graphics are a little plain.

  • Abstract:  The Sega Saturn was host to a lot of games with cool ideas that most people never got to play, because the system just wasn’t a huge market success. Guardian Heroes is one of them, and it operated on the premise of combining Final Fight with Street Fig...

  • Abstract:  I never played the first Guardian Heroes , so I didn't have anything to compare the remake to. That was a good thing because I didn't have to worry about battling feelings of nostalgia while reviewing this game. Based on what I've played in this 2011 re-r...
