  • The Sony HDR-CX12 is a classic Greek tragedy. It has so much potential - great image quality, manual control, and great extras - that are marred by serious shortfalls - camera dock requirement, lack of external audio in, and no progressive modes. If y...

  • Excellent image quality; comfortable and easy to use; works with iMovie ’09 without a hitch; cool Night Shot and super slow motion shooting modes; good photo stills.
  • External mike input available only through Active Interface Shoe; no headphone jack; requires cumbersome docking base to connect to Mac; no progressive video mode.

  • Excellent video performance; impressive still photos for a camcorder; decent manual controls.
  • No wind filter; USB on dock only, not on camcorder; no viewfinder; smallish LCD.
  • As the flash-memory-based equivalent of the HDR-SR11, the Sony Handycam HDR-CX12 serves up the same pleasing performance and quality as its hard-drive cousin. Specifications: Video input type: Camcorder ; Optical zoom: 12 x ; Media type: Flash card See...

  • Abstract:  Video Review: If youre looking to capture the light in the eyes of your giftees, this just may be the way to go with a 2.7" LCD touch screen for navigation and the ability to shoot 1920 x 1080 resolution directly to a memory stick. Scoop it up now for...

  • Abstract:  We chose the Sony HDR-CX12 HandyCam for shooting our HD video. We wanted something affordable (under $1000), small, and light that records in HD format. The Sony records video at 1080/60i storing..

  • Abstract:  The Sony HDR-CX12 is a very strong performer in all kinds of light. For that alone, it merits as a solid choice for an all-purpose camcorder. If you plan on limiting your operations to point-and-shoot recording, take comfort in the CX12s Easy mode, wh...

  • but, naturally, its compromised, No electronic viewfinder, Addiction to memory cards
  • Should space and weight be your priorities, and youre willing to fund the cameras memory card habit, then the CX12 is the high-def camcorder to have, otherwise the SR11/SR12 twins get our vote every time. ...

  • Excellent AVCHD video quality, good performance in dim lighting, 10.1Mp stills mode, Smile Shutter technology, camera control dial for hands on adjustments
  • No inbuilt memory, not as compact as other flash memory–based models, inclusion of superfluous buttons
  • The HDR-CX12 is a brilliant high-def handycam that is almost impossible to find fault with. It improves on its CX7K predecessor in nearly every area and is easily a match for Sonys high-end HDR-SR12 model. If you dont mind the lack of an inbuilt har...

Published: 2008-09-01, Author: Margaret , review by: photoreview.com.au

  • Abstract:  The Handycam HDR-CX12 is similar in size and styling to the HDR-CX7 model, which it replaces. One of a rapidly-growing class of camcorders that record exclusively to flash memory (in this case Memory Stick Pro Duo), its also the first camcorder with S...
