  • It's easy to accidentally activate the side zoom control, extending the lens inadvertently, Charging via USB makes charging a spare more difficult, since the camera does the charging, and it's unavailable while charging is in process, Too many will sho...
  • An extremely wide and long zoom, an easy interface, and very fast autofocus combine to make the Nikon Coolpix P500 an excellent companion camera. Shooting with the P500 reminded me of how much fun photography can be, and that's a nice intangible featur...

  • The P500 is fast, powering up and shooting in an average of 2 seconds, and you only wait 1.5 seconds between shots. Shutter lag, the time from button press to image capture, is a mere 0.5 seconds. In the PC Mag labs, we use Imatest to objectively measure...

  • 36x optical zoom. Fast. Sharp images and very good low-light performance. 1080p video capture. Manual controls.
  • Bulky. Expensive for a point-and-shoot camera.
  • It won't fit in your pocket, but Nikon's Coolpix P500 is a killer camera that combines sublime speed with a huge 36x zoom lens, HD-video recording, and a high-res articulating LCD. Buy it now...

  • 36x zoom!, Simple to use, Feels great in the hands,
  • Average image quality, No RAW, Disappointing video quality
  • For many photographers, the Nikon P500′s 36x zoom will be just too tempting to resist, and after using it, we can see why. With an unprecedented focal range of 22.5-810mm, there aren’t many subjects that it can’t cover, be it landscape or wildlife, far...

  • The Nikon Coolpix P500 is a rather modest update of its predecessor, the P100, with the new 36x zoom lens the star of the show. Being able to shoot ultra-wide angle landscapes and extreme close-ups with the same camera is very liberating, but the over...

  • The Nikon Coolpix P500 has a solid design, is overflowing with photo and movie features, and has very fast shooting performance for its class
  • Its photo and video quality is very soft, particularly at high ISOs and in low-light conditions. It also lacks raw support and auto picture rotation
  • The Nikon Coolpix P500 improves on its predecessor's features and shooting performance, but its photos and video quality still aren't as good as the rest of the package.
