  • Viewed purely as a 20x optical travel zoom costing £199 the Pentax Optio VS20 would seem like an enticing prospect enough, so perhaps we can forgive it the slightly crazy and unnecessary addition of two sets of shutter release buttons and matching tripod...

  • Clever dual shutter release, decent sharpness at wide angle
  • Unpredictable image quality, chunky body

  • Inexpensive, Broad focal range, Easy to use, Automatic panorama stitching
  • Autofocus easily confused, White balance varies, Some 'effects' look like mistakes, Soso battery life, Twin controls are a gimmick
  • Despite looking enticingly flashy in the press shots with its broader than average zoom lens extended, when placed before you the Pentax Optio VS20 is a bit of a lump compared with travel zooms costing a little more, such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20 a...

  • Abstract:  This is another small digital camera from a name more associated with lenses rather than cameras. But they do make rather good cameras as well. This offering has a feature that I have never seen before on any camera I have reviewed....

  • Inexpensive, Broad focal range, Easy to use, Automatic panorama stitching
  • Autofocus easily confused, White balance varies, Some 'effects' look like mistakes, So, so battery life, Twin controls are a gimmick
  • With this sort of model, you really do just want to point and shoot and come away with usable results most (if not all) of the time. And in that respect the Olympus SZ-14 - costing £199/$305 - is a better bet, if not perfect. The Pentax Optio VS20's uniq...

  • Big 20x zoom in a small package; lots of photo effects,
  • Extra shutter button isn't much use; soft, smudged details; basic controls,

  • Despite the daft gimmick of the second shutter release the VS20 could have been a pretty decent camera. The image stabilisation is superb, it looks good, handles well, has fairly good performance, and the 20x zoom is very useful. Unfortunately some idiot...

  • Affordable, plenty of creative framing opportunities, simple to use, automatic in-camera panorama stitching, smattering of digital effects filters
  • Inconsistent performance from autofocus, exposure and white balance, some digital filter effects look more like camera mistakes, below average battery life, dual controls more gimmick than essential
  • While £199 for a 20x zoom camera suggests good value, the VS20’s performance is inconsistent, while dual shutter release buttons come across as more gimmicky than essential....
