  • Powerful telephoto zoom range, 3-mode, 4-stop image stabilization, Great handling and build quality,
  • Very expensive to buy, Quite weighty,
  • The Mark II edition of Canon's classic 100-400mm IS USM lens is an ideal choice for sports, action and wildlife photography. It ditches the dubious trombone-style push/pull zoom mechanism of the original lens, replacing it with a more conventional twist-a...

  • Many were referring to 2014 as the "Year of the Lens" and the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens joins a host of other 2014-anounced models (including the amazing Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens). This lens has been the hottest, most in-demand...

  • Abstract:  We've tested 130 lenses on Canon's flagship camera, the full-frame 18-Mpix Canon EOS-1D X Mk II, covering focal lengths ranging from an incredibly wide 11mm up to a super-telephoto 600mm.We've split the results between primes and zooms and then arranged t...

  • Abstract:  We've tested 130 lenses on the recently-introduced full-frame 30-Mpix Canon EOS 5D Mk IV, covering focal lengths ranging from an ultra-wide angle 11mm to 600mm super-telephoto.Because photographers differ about their preferred choices of focal length for...

  • While I really enjoyed my time testing the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, it has created a dilemma for me. Should I trade in my 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for this highly versatile tool that seems to outshine the 70-200mm in many respects, including cl...

  • Sports, wildlife and nature. Candids, and studio portraiture too at shorter focal lengths
  • New optical design delivers high performance, Sharp at all focal lengths, at all apertures, and across the frame, Sharper than MkI version, and sharpest in class, Excellent image stabilization, Very close focusing, 0.31x magnification at 400mm, beats all
  • The Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 IS USM Mark II has been worth waiting for, now with unrivalled all-round telezoom versatility. It rates best in class for sharpness, AF performance, image stabilization, close focusing and build quality. Canon has done a very...

  • Abstract:  © Joe Farace If there's a more challenging photographic discipline than wildlife photography, I don't know what it is. It requires heavy and expensive long focal length lenses, a sturdy tripod, and the physical prowess to schlep all this gear through ph...

  • As the replacement for the original model, Canon have improved just about everything they can from operation through to optical quality. However it's the performance at the long-end that's crucial and while Canon have made advances most of the gains are i...

  • Incredibly sharp throughout zoom range. Optically stabilized. Quick focus. 1:3 magnification. Relatively compact.
  • Pricey. Some barrel distortion at 100mm
  • The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is a telezoom lens with a compact design and incredibly sharp optics...

  • solid casing of very high build quality, excellent image quality in the frame centre no matter what focal length you employ, very good image quality on the edge of the APSC sensor, good image quality on the edge of full frame, slight chromatic aberration,
  • noticeable vignetting at longer focal lengths on full frame, a bit too many flares (despite a huge improvement when compared to the predecessor).
  • I think those who were waiting patiently for the Canon EF 100–400 mm f/4.5–5.6L IS II USM won't be disappointed. Its predecessor was optically very good but the new lens is better in every single category. The evenness of performance, no matter what focal...
