  • Abstract:  Not too long ago we took at look at the Gateway P-171XL FX here on Geek.com. The product has since been EOL’d and has been replaced with a new crop of P series notebooks. This time we had a chance to test out another FX Edition gaming notebook, the P-7...

  • Excellent Price, Strong 3D Graphics, Lots of Peripheral Expansion Options
  • Battery Extends Out Rear of Laptop Rather Than Flush, Heavy Use of Glossy Plastics That Show Smudges and Scratches Easily
  • Gateway has taken a very strong 17-inch FX laptop series and made some serious improvements with the new Centrino 2 that gives it very strong performance and improved battery life over previous models. This is a great notebook for those looking for a p...

  • False Start or Judging Error? Weve had a lot of good things to say about the P-7811, and on paper theres plenty to like. Clearly performance is also good, and for the price there simply arent any other laptops that can seriously compete right now. W...

  • Features a high-end Centrino 2 CPU and Nvidia GeForce 9800 graphics card for an incredibly reasonable price; higher screen resolution than previous models; 4GB of RAM and 64-bit OS.
  • Lacks a few basic amenities, such as Bluetooth and a fingerprint reader; 200GB hard drive is merely average.
  • We dont know how Gateway makes money selling these things, but the combination of high-end components and low price makes the 17-inch Gateway P-7811FX the best mobile gaming deal going right now. Specifications: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.26 GHz);...

  • 1,920-by-1,200-resolution screen. Only $1,399. Energy-efficient processor. Centrino 2 platform. Gamers graphics card. DDR3 memory.
  • 64-bit Vista may have compatibility issues with your old software and hardware. Heavier than its competitors.
  • Multimedia buffs and casual gamers will love the Gateway P-7811FXs 1080p-quality resolution and energy-efficient premium parts if they can get past its back-breaking weight and 64-bit compatibility issues....

  • Some of the best gaming performance ever recorded on a PC. Long battery life for a desktop replacement. Comfy and solid keyboard withstands heavy hands. Mutimedia controls and slide volume look cool without glowing too brightly.
  • No Bluray is a letdown for HDheads, and you cant configure your PC to include the drive. The battery sticks out a bit in the back, and the power brick is monstrous. Power lights on the front, unlike the multimedia controls, are too bright.RAM Size: 4 GB C...

  • Best 3D performance for the price, Beautiful high-definition display, HDMI and eSATA ports, Good productivity performance
  • Speakers not very powerful, No Blu-ray drive
  • Editors note: Although our review unit came configured with a fingerprint reader and Bluetooth, these options are not available in the production model.Gateway shook up the gaming notebook market earlier this year by pairing a high-end graphics card w...

  • Superb gaming performance for a superb price.
  • Too heavy to regularly lug around; mouse buttons feel creaky.
