  • Harden is a neat mechanic that puts a spin on the tried and true formula, Interesting visual design and rich atmosphere, Value price point
  • Hit and run tactics are too effective, Minimal weapons/builds options, Uninteresting story/world building, The way healing items are handled

  • Excellent combat system, Shell mechanic is awesome, Strong polish and presentation, Interesting lore to unravel
  • Level design could be better, More weapons would have been nice, Music is bland
  • Source: Cold SymmetryWhile Mortal Shell's issues with level design, small weapon variety, and an underwhelming score are disappointing, the game as a whole is great. Mortal Shell's combat is stellar and unique, and the shell mechanic gives players plenty...

  • Abstract:  It's hard to separate talking about Mortal Shell from discussing the Souls games-- Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice --because developer Cold Symmetry has obviously created a love letter to From Software's work. But Mortal Shell isn'...

  • Mortal Shell isn't as rich and complex as post-Souls games like Bloodborne or Sekiro, but it does make you work for victories and learn from your mistakes. It's a beautifully dark adventure, and thanks to its clever body-swapping mechanic it delivers much...

  • Mortal Shell is a game that proves that great games can come from small teams. While the game's inspiration is clear, Mortal Shell does plenty to innovate within its genre and provides an experience that all fans of this style of game should enjoy. Better...

  • Satisfying combat, Incredibly strict checkpoint system, Compelling art direction, Solid maze-like level design
  • Underwhelming progression, Many reused enemies and assets, Soundtrack is barely there, Some frustrating bugs
  • Mortal Shell will induce excessive levels of stress and a practically unending sense of dread. But, if you're looking for a deep role-playing game with an abundance of unique content, you might come out disappointed...

  • The game does the majority of the things it sets out to do right. The harden mechanic is a cool new feature, but parrying followed up by an empowered riposte is one of the most fun aspects of the game. Combine that with special moves such as furiously spi
  • Fallgrim (the opening area) is a little disorienting. Functioning like a darker, bigger, and swampier version of Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls, it's easy to get lost and overrun by enemies. Maybe this is the developer's intention, but the numerous minic
  • In conclusion, Cold Symmetry has achieved greatness with Mortal Shell. The game is by no means perfect and it is fairly brief. But for such a small team and a new IP, the result is impressive. This is strongly recommended for all fans of the Souls genre a...

  • Abstract:  What it is - Mortal Shell is an indie Souls-like with innovative new features, a grim fantasy style, and some rough edges. What it isn't - It's not a AAA experience, and isn't meant for everyday gamers. It's a hard-as-nails action RPG that will punish you...
