  • Abstract:  Welcome to the Far East. It seems to have become the focal point for all of the military shooter rage of recent times and SOCOM: Special Forces has become the latest to take advantage of the political instability of the region to forge an interesting s...

  • I’ll be honest here and say I didn’t really care or follow much of the story in , just as I don’t in most shooter games. Half-way through I always get confused and lost, but around the beautiful motion-captured cutscenes and explosive sound design, i...

  • Effective use of command system to guide different squads, Stealth missions are quite satisfying
  • Move compatibility is fun but I wouldn't trade it for a controller experience
  • It's not exactly a ground-breaking game but Socom: Special Forces stands out compared to some linear third-person shooters with its unique squad command mechanics...

  • Solid and varied online experience, actual character progression during single player, good variety of weapons to play with, fast-paced action that usually feels fair.
  • Gimmicky use of Move support, harsh learning curve for new players, some hit detection issues when playing solo, AI is unpredictable - particularly in stealth missions.

  • Abstract:  I’ve finally had the chance to play through the main campaign for SOCOM: Special Forces. After my pretty incoherent introduction to the game (hinted at in last week’s preview), I was keen to get stuck into a bit of story, which I hoped would provide a ...

  • Solid gameplay; entertaining co-op and multiplayer; decent character models; stealth sections are great, if sparse
  • Confusing story; muddy textures and sound; plays too safe with gameplay; doesn't do enough to stand out

  • Abstract:  It's never quite clear what you'll end up with from an iteration of Sony's stalwart SOCOM series. Part 3rd-person shooter and part tactical action game, the original was lauded on release as one of the first genuine attempts to get PlayStation owners onli...

  • In all, Special Forces meanders along the line of all-out action and low-key stealth in terrific fashion, where making your way through a moon-lit, rain-soaked dockyard in perfect solitude is a glance away from ordering an air strike on an invading tan...

  • Abstract:  SOCOM 4 would have been a cool game – had it released five years ago. Today it’s nothing but a generic tactical shooter that’s a bit technically underwhelming. It’s not that there’s anything fundamentally wrong with the game; it’s just that gamers to...
