  • Small and lightweight, Can operate as a USB DAC, Relatively inexpensive
  • Dog-slow user interface, Sharp bottom edge, No Wi-Fi support
  • We love the AK Jr for its portability, strong feature set, and clean interface, but its sluggish responsiveness taints an otherwise great high-resolution audio value...

  • A&K's most affordable player, Same Wolfson DAC as in classic models, Flatter form factor
  • DSD converted to PCM, Less than intuitive GUI
  • The Astell & Kern AK Jr is the least expensive music player from the company that has defined the state of the art in pocketable audio...

  • Abstract:  It was almost exactly a year ago that I reviewed my choice for an iPod replacement, the FiiO X1. Cheaper than the iPod Classic (now discontinued by Apple) the FiiO had the advantage of playing high resolution music files. I just recently put the FiiO in m...

  • Jr lacks some of the functionality (optical output) of the AK100 and AK120 it has replaced. Its corners are stupidly sharp, its screen larger, but no more accurate. Its GUI is easier to navigate, but with a battery life that tops out at around 8 hours, it...

  • The Astell & Kern AK Jr offers excellent design and great usability -- from the dedicated volume dial to the no-nonsense menu. Great-sounding sonics and able to drive many different types of headphones. Able to put dedicated USB DACs to shame
  • The corners on the casing are pointed, which can make it uncomfortable to hold, and the case that fixes the problem runs an extra $50. Making playlists could be more straightforward. Relatively short battery life at only nine hours. Sound quality isn't $2
  • The Astell & Kern AK Jr marries classic design with class-leading sound, making it one of the best high-res players for the money...

  • If we're talking generalizations, which is exactly what a conclusion generally is, my feeling are a preference towards the Astell&Kern $499 AK Jr over the original $1299 AK120 reviewed in August 2013 and that, in itself, says quite a bit about how good th...

  • Super solid aluminium brick; Features a touchscreen; Volume knob is a superbly tactile way of controlling sound; Includes hardware buttons for pause, play and song skip; Gapless music possible by pressing the “G” button on screen; Charges over microUSB; U
  • Expensive; Edges may feel a bit intrusive; No way of downloading missing album art;
  • The name “Astell & Kern” may not be familiar to all, but those who do know of it are aware of what the brand stands for: audio products with a slightly unorthodox design and a quality geared for high-resolution audio.In fact, if you owned a media player b...
