Despite Blu-ray’s early stumbles, the Philips BDP9000 belies the notion that the format is not yet ready for prime time. The player’s color and detail are excellent, as is the sound it produces. It’s also a fine DVD spinner. And at $800, it’s the least...
First generation Blu-ray player, excellent picture quality, offers HDMI upscaling, 10 in 2 multi format memory card slot, smart design
Expensive, limited audio options

Slick design; excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and DVD; DVD upconversion to 480p, 720p, 1,080i, and 1,080p; very good remote; HDMI output and included cable.
Expensive; inferior support for both DTS and Dolby surround formats on DVD; expensive; no HDMI 1.3.
The Philips BDP9000 has some great design touches and excellent Blu-ray image quality, but its high price, less-comprehensive audio capabilities and the comparative affordability of the PlayStation 3 suggest that you should probably hold off.
