  • Dropping price, Availability, Looks great, Easy to setup, Amazing Picture Quality & Sound, Complete Hardware Bundle, Build Quality
  • Firmware needs to be upgraded before use (Simple Task though), Slower load times than standard DVD Player, Gets you readdicted to watching movies again.
  • As the original released Blu-ray player back in the first quarter of 2007, this player is still on the market and represents an incredible value if someone is in the market to upgrade their DVD player to true high definition. This player has every co...

  • Abstract:  It seems no matter who I talk to nowadays one question repeatedly pops up, "So what do you think about this looming format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray?" Either that or I get asked what I think about one format or the other. While I definitely have ...

  • Abstract:  The war begins. . .with a whimper. With more than a little excitement, I hooked up the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc player. Here it is, the first Blu-ray player to hit the world. I put it right on top of the Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player, which Im s...

  • Abstract:  The Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray Disc player had been out just a couple of days when my phone began ringing with some interesting reports from the field. It didnt take long to realize that this would be no ordinary product launch. Of course, how could it...

  • Supports 1080p digital video output. Good performance with standard DVD movies. Integrated memory card readers for viewing digital images.
  • It costs twice as much as the least expensive HD DVD player. The remote suffers from small buttons and an odd button layout. Sluggish start-up and load times, but slightly better than current HD DVD players.
  • The stylish Samsung BD-P1000 is a capable disc player that unleashes the full capabilities of the Blu-ray format. Unfortunately, the initial Blu-ray titles are a reminder that there are lots of older films that need some TLC before they will look great...

  • Plays Blu-ray discs in true high-definition; upscales standard DVDs to high-definition; sleek design; 1080p output via HDMI.
  • Twice as expensive as the competing HD-DVD player; very few titles available at launch; video quality on initial titles less impressive than HD-DVD versions; slower load times; some operational bugs.
  • With video quality thats impressive but still not as good as its HD-DVD competition, the costly Samsung BD-P1000 will appeal only to those willing to risk a grand on a first-generation player in the middle of a format war.
