  • The player can output 1080p/60 or 1080p/24 via HDMI, and its image quality with highdef movies is excellent, The BDPS300 also does a nice job of upconverting standarddefinition DVDs, offering good detail and minimal digital artifacts,
  • It does not support BonusView (pictureinpicture functionality) or BDLive (the ability to access interactive Web content), This player does not decode Dolby TrueHD and DTSHD or pass it in bitstream form over HDMI, Startup and disc navigation are slower than you'll find on newer Bluray players, especially with Bluray discs that use a lot of BDJava in their menus.
  • The BDP-S300 was a great value and fine performer when it was first released in mid-2007, but newer models offer better features for a lower price. Sony just released the new Profile 1.1 BDP-S350, which is the same price, but offers better high-resolut...

  • Plays JPEG and MP3 files on DVDs. Supports 24-Hz output with Blu-ray movies. Provides basic picture control settings and presets.
  • Slow disc load times with some Blu-ray movies. No 24-Hz output with DVD video. No bitstream audio output (HDMI).
  • Sonys least-expensive Blu-ray Disc player isnt a speed demon, but it delivers solid detail and a pleasing viewing experience....

  • The BDP-S300 might be one of the cheapest Blu-ray players on the market but be prepared to make sacrifices if you buy one - it only supports one of the four HD audio formats and its Profile 1.0 spec means you won't be able to access Bonus View features.An...

  • Excellent picture quality, inexpensive for a Blu-ray player, offers HDMI upscaling to 1080p
  • Slow load times, lacks onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD
  • The first thing you will notice about the BDP-S300, Sonys second generation Blu-Ray DVD player, is that the list price is substantially lower than the first generation model. The Sony BDP-S300 is obviously still much more expensive than most standard...

  • Abstract:  While the Sony BDP-S300 is an entry level Blu-ray player, entry level doesnt necessarily mean cheap. At $500, youre getting a capable high definition video player and thats about it. The unconversion ability of standard DVDs is lackluster at best a...

  • Abstract:  3 More BD 4 U: Three second-gen Blu-ray players. Hot on the heels of the first, and almost universally lame, generation of Blu-ray players, heres generation II. In the case of two of these players, the big news is a substantial reduction in price. B...

  • Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and DVD; DVD upconversion up to 1080p; HDMI output.
  • No onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding; slow load times, particularly unbearable on newer BD Java discs like Pirates of the Caribbean; some minor video performance issues; no Ethernet port for firmware upgrades.
  • The BDP-S300 is a decent choice if youre limiting yourself to a relatively cheap, standard-design Blu-ray player, but everyone else should consider the competition.

  • Abstract:  The price of machines that will play Blu-ray or HD DVD high-definition discs is coming down. The drop is faster on the HD DVD side of the battle lines, but at $499 Sonys new BDP-S300 is half the price of its (still available) first generation BDP-S1....
