  • Excellent image quality with most HD DVD and DVD videos. Selectable 1080p24 output via HDMI.
  • Half-resolution processing of 1080i video. No raw bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD lossless audio formats. No picture or video processing controls.
  • The Toshiba HD-A30 failed some of our challenging lab tests, but its image quality with most HD DVD and standard-def DVD movies was admirably detailed and free of distracting artifacts....

  • Excellent image quality in 1080i and 1080p/24 mode; Ethernet jack for firmware updates; Dolby TrueHD decoding.
  • Image quality in 1080p mode disappointing; no analog multichannel outputs; not much of an upgrade over cheaper HD-A3.
  • The Toshiba HD-A30 is a solid third-generation HD DVD player, but for most people its not worth the extra dough.
