  • Abstract:  This 10.2 megapixel camera is the same camera as the Nikon D40 except for the sensor. For the extra $500 the buyer gets four extra megapixels. Apart from that, all that we said about the D40 applies to this camera. This is lighter...

  • The D40X comes with the same kit lens as the D40 and it is pretty good. It a plastic rather than a metal mount, which suggests penny pinching and quality compromises. However Nikon have chosen to make it with a modest zoom range -- a mere 27 to 82mm in...
  • The D40X, like the D40, does not to have a camera status LCD on the body top. Camera status is now displayed ephemerally on the LCD review screen and some settings appear in the viewfinder. This no doubt keeps the price of the camera down but it is a r...
  • So the question for a would-be buyer is: Are those extra pixels worth the $400? 6 million pixels will produce A3 prints. 10 million give some room for cropping without loss of resolution. By comparison with the competition at this price the D40X offers...

  • Abstract:  Nikon Australia has just announced the D40X, big brother to its entry-level offering, the D40. It might be more of an incremental upgrade than a ground-breaking offering, but if the 10-megapixel digital SLR is anything like its little sister, its buil...

  • Compact size, mid weight. Graphically clear menu setup.
  • No image stabiliser. No instant preview on the LCD.
  • An excellent starter camera for those who want to get serious with a DSLR and enjoy the Nikons excellent picture quality.

  • At a street price today of around £399 for the camera and 18-55mm standard zoom it’s about £50 cheaper than better-specified D80 with an 18-70mm lens, which would appear to offer much better value. But this is missing part of the rationale behind the ...

  • Abstract:  Nikon D40X is a digital SLR camera that makes use of a 10.2 megapixel CCD. The camera also has the Nikon Image processing engine, 3D colour matrix metering, and ISO sensitivity range 100. It also allows for in-camera retouches such as, monochrome, imag...

  • Unintuitive to use compared to competition Poor labelling of controls (playback display is changed with up / down controls on 4 way controller for example) No quick way to set the white balance - takes 5 button presses No quick way to set ISO, without ...
  • The Nikon D40x is a compact 10 megapixel Digital SLR that produces great image quality, with very low noise levels. Images are bright, detailed, and colourful with lots of saturation, and the camera produces pleasing JPEG images. This makes it a great ...

  • Abstract:  Closely rivals the EOS 400D at a lower price. The D40x directly rivals Canons EOS 400D, and has many things in its favour. The 3fps continuous mode lasts for 100 rather than the 400Ds 30 shots, and a focus assist lamp aids sharp focus in low ligh...

  • Despite Nikons "nobody could better the D40 so we decided to do it ourselves" flippancy, owners of the D40 shouldnt feel pressure to update, the Nikon D40x versions additions have generally been made to bring the cameras specs up to match competit...
